Delightful Treat for Chinese New Year + Valentine’s Day – HCafe Strawberry Mochi Cake

New Year has just passed; you think the celebration has been over? Not yet! Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day will be arrived soon.

Many of you may not yet have ideas what to bring when visit your relatives or what to get for your Valentine. A cake would be ideal if they like desserts; however, a cake may not be enough to show your love to your special someone but enough for celebrating Chinese New Year with your relatives.

The Strawberry Mochi Cake from HCafe definitely a good choice for you to bring over to the Chinese New Year gatherings. Have you heard of HCafe? Originally called Uncle Tetsu Unionville but now it is called HCafe Unionville. They have an express spot at Yonge and Sheppard in the Emerald Park buildings, with direct access to Sheppard TTC station too, if you are rushing to an event.

On the top is the Strawberry Mochi Cake while on the bottom is the Chocolate Mix Japanese Cheesecake (Holiday version). Both of them look pretty wintry festive.

Mochi is a Japanese dessert that made with glutinous rice, stuffed with sweet fillings and served in cold or room temperature. Some examples of the fillings are red bean paste and matcha whipping cream.

You can see the edge of the Mochi cake is rounded and floured. It does look like the Mochi but in a larger size. The brand name and the sakura stamp on the cake garnished and gave it the feel of Japan.

Let’s have a look of the inside of the cake. In general, it looks like a pink moon, if your partner really love pastel colors, it definitely a good gift for her. Personally, I think it also would be a stylish gift to bring over for Chinese New Year gathering besides traditional candies, boxed chocolates and cookies. This will make a really warm cozy moment to gather around your relatives and friends, having a small slice of treat after the whole day of Chinese New Year visiting. What a perfect way to end the day!

The bottom of the Mochi Strawberry Cake is made with biscuit and butter. However, it was not as hard as I thought; you could taste the tiny pieces of crumbly biscuit. The middle part is a thick layer of strawberry mousse with some fresh strawberries. Basically, the whole cake is filled up with the mousse, which I like the thick, rich creamy texture tasted in my mouth. On the very top, it looks like a pretty thin layer of mochi, but when you eat it, it does not taste as thin as it looks. The mochi layer is a bit hard and I am not sure if it’s for the look or with other purpose, but I believe it helped to form the shape of the mochi cake. Overall, I like this cake and I would recommend my friends to get one for their coming up gatherings.
